Storage "Wallets"

Some "wallets" store only bitcoin or ethereum while other wallets store multiple cryptocurrencies.  Wallets provide safe storage for your cryptos off the exchanges.  The wallets at the exchanges are less secure than wallet-only services.

Here are a few industry trusted wallets:  Jaxx, Blockchain, MyEtherWallet, and Bitcoin.com.  You can learn more about "cold wallets" (i.e., "hardware wallets") in the article below about practicing safe crypto.

Cryptocurrency Exchanges

A few of our favorite cryptocurrency exchanges

Here are few other exchanges you may want to consider:  Gemini, Bittrex, Kraken, Liqui, and EtherDelta.  For buying cryptocurrencies with U.S. dollars, I use GDAX (Coinbase's exchange) and Gemini.

I personally do not recommend using Kraken to wire any U.S. dollars as they take a long time to credit their customer accounts (more than 2 weeks) - just google this and you'll find many customer complaints.

Bittrex is currently closed for new user registrations.  They will open up new user registration as soon as their infrastructure support can handle the additional volume.

I've recently registered on these two new exchanges too:  Huobi and Qryptos.

If you are serious about getting into cryptocurrencies, I suggest you create new accounts on these exchanges before they close down new user registrations.  It's free to create an account, and you can fund it later; there is no fee for having an account open with no fund in it.  When you are ready to trade, you will have the account ready to go.
